Emergency Locksmith FAQs
How much does an emergency locksmith cost in London?
A 2026 price guide puts a London emergency locksmith call-out at about £100 to £200 in the day and £160 to £250 at night, with an emergency lock change at £180 to £360 (Fantastic Services). We confirm our own price in writing before any work starts.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
We never add hidden travel surcharges. Because an emergency visit involves travel and assessing the lock, we tell you on the phone how that part is charged and what the likely total is, so you can decide before a locksmith sets off.
How quickly can a locksmith get to me?
We aim to reach lockouts across London as fast as traffic allows, and we give you an honest arrival estimate for your postcode when you call. If your property is insecure or someone vulnerable is locked out, tell us and we will put your job first.
Will you damage my door or lock to get in?
Not usually. Most locks can be opened by picking or bypass, and we always try those first. Some deadlocked or high-security locks have to be drilled. If so, we explain why and agree the price of the replacement lock with you before we go any further.
My key snapped in the lock. What should I do?
Stop turning it and do not try to glue or force it, as that can jam the cylinder. Keep the broken piece if you have it. We extract the fragment, test the lock and only replace the cylinder if it is damaged, then cut or supply working keys.
Do I need to prove I live at the property?
Yes. A responsible locksmith must check you are entitled to enter. We ask for photo ID with a bill or letter showing the address, or a tenancy agreement or the agent’s permission if you rent. This protects you as much as anyone else.
How can I avoid a rogue locksmith?
Be wary of very low phone quotes that rise once the locksmith arrives, pressure to pay in cash and calls answered by a call centre. Which? advises checking reviews and accreditation first. We give a written price before work and our accreditations can be checked.
Not Sure What to Do?
Not sure whether to wait, try a spare key or call us out? Call us for honest advice on the quickest safe way back inside.
